Cooking with Maggie Part 2

Maggie came for a second cook day at my place. This time I chose the recipes based on some of the things she wanted to learn. Today I will share 3 of things we made that day. I am saving the other for a more detailed look later in the week. You can click on the name of what we made to go to the recipe. In the photo above Maggie is practicing a chiffonade with basil. Chiffonade is basically stacking then rolling up leafy greens or, herbs in this case, kind of like a cigar and then finely slicing it.

This is what it looks like afterwards, herb confetti. It's what they do at restaurants to finish a dish before it goes out to you. We actually put it in the marinara sauce we were making.

Maggie also got to try her hand with a stick blender. It was a little scary at first but she quickly got the hang of it. You can see we added the apron so we didn't mess up her cute sweater....Maggie said the marinara sauce was restaurant worthy. It also happens to be the most "hit" recipe on my blog! If you haven't tried it yet you ought to....

We also made Buckeyes. Here is Maggie rolling out the peanut butter balls of goodness. Let me just say that Maggie likes peanut butter.....I can not confirm nor deny the amount of dough consumed on this particular day....after the dough is rolled it is then....

dunked in chocolate. This was another good thing that Maggie got to learn, anyone can make a double boiler. You just need a sauce pan with water in it and then a glass bowl on top filled with chocolate for melting.

This is the finished tray. You can see ours have a hole in the middle. We found the easiest way to dip them in chocolate was to use a skewer and poke the peanut butter cookie and roll it around in the chocolate. Dana says to use two forks....that was not working for us....

Happy Maggie with her tray. Her lucky home fellowship group got to enjoy them.

We also made these thumb print peanut butter and jelly cookies. Do you see a theme here? The recipe is from Hint of Honey, another great blog. The cookies turned out delicious and were a fun twist on an old cookie. This picture isn't great, there are much better ones on her blog....

I've told Maggie she now needs to plan a dinner party....we'll see!

Enjoy!
